Times, they are a'changin'

The countdown is on
‘til the end of the year!
Eight more school days
until we’re all clear.

No more waking up early.
Well, maybe for some.
No pencils or books,
come, summer, come!

Daddy is home
from his trip ‘cross the sea.
Just in time for the chaos
our days surely will be.

As before the year ends,
milestones will be hit.
From kindergarten graduation
to Baccalaureate.

The season is here
with changes galore.
One headed to first grade
another to Pre-K4.

A sophomore arrives
and hits the roads.
Eeek! Not another teen driver?
Stay in your abodes!

But the biggest event
we will witness quite soon,
is senior graduation
held under the moon.

The moon and the stars
will light up our way
to watch Katie and friends
have their big day.

Can’t believe the time’s come
for my first birdie to fly
far away from our nest
without a glance goodbye.

So bear with me right now
as we prepare for the sight
of my baby to leave me
and ride off in the night.

I promise you pictures
and tales of each day
that we spend celebrating
a new passage-way.

A passage that leads
my four kids somewhere new.
A passage that shows me
just how much each one grew.

Time to look back at time
and shed a few tears
as I realize how quickly
we move through the years.

I guess I am not looking forward to an empty nest, when right now I am looking forward to a full one :)

Love it-will you have empty nest? even though some still at home? I wonder how I will do when that day comes.

Oh, you are where we were last year at this time. Not easy when one of the baby birds leaves the nest! Great poem, Kristin!!

Changes are a comin', that's for sure. But I see another change you don't-- you need to write a children's book this summer and become a published author! Seriously girl! Your poems rock!

So sweet! Fun times ahead with a college girl and a little one just starting.

Have a great week and continue that countdown! :)

You are so creative! I don't even like to think about Sunnee leaving the nest in thirteen years (or, three months to start kindergarten), so I can't imagine how you feel with Katie's imminent departure.

Great job! Love the poem and the sentiment... Big changes are headed your way it seems.

Oh Kristin! I loved the poem sooo full of emotion. Here I struggled with K4 graduation (just thinking about watching her sing, 'I'm proud to be an American' still breaks me up). Thinking of you and all the changes coming your way!!! HUGS!!!

Great job, glad I don't have some Blog to Post & try to compete with yours. We've got one leaving and one coming back!!! They never really go too far (don't know if that's good or bad yet!) Chris
