The Great Diet Coke Experiment

Six months ago, I was loving my diet coke.

Six months ago, I was loving the caffeine.

Six months ago, I had increased blood pressure, blurry vision, headaches, dizziness, head fog, and other unexplained issues.

So six months ago, I did some research to see if it all was connected.

Turns out, some artificial sweeteners can have negative effects on certain people.

Lucky me. Guess I was one of those “certain” people.

Sigh.

I gave up diet drinks for about two months. That’s all I could handle. Then slowly, diet drinks began to enter my life again. And you know what?

I had the same medical issues.

You’d think I’d learn, huh?

Once again, I ditched the splenda and tossed in caffeine for good measure.

So I have been caffeine and artificial sweetener free for four months.

And my blood pressure has decreased back to the normal zone.

Methinks perhaps artificial sweeteners are not the best thing for our bodies.

Or at least mine.

Oh, and the added bonus? I have lost my craving for sweets.

Strange how things are linked together, huh?

Oh my, I had some blood pressure issues last spring. Maybe I should give up my Diet Coke. CAN LIFE GO ON WITHOUT IT???

I drink Diet Coke with added carcinogen... er... Lime. I am feeling very convicted now. (And you'd think - with all of my food preservative allergies - that this junk would bother me. But nope, not allergic. But definitely not good for me either.)

A few years ago, I realized I was drinking some 14+ cups of coffee a day...that lead me to cut back to today one, maybe two. It can be done. Of course, I've got nothing on the artificial stuff. :)

The phosphates in the carbonated beverages are also bad for the bones. As my doctor put it "they suck the calcium right out of your bones". I gave up diet coke over 2 years ago. Now I can't even drink it. It makes me want to gag. I still do sweet n' low in my rare cup of coffee. I'm more about teas -- green, white, black, yerba mate, herbals. I use pure stevia in those. Much better!

Great information. I stopped drinking mountain dew sodas (yummy) about 3 years ago. Nice site.

I have a friend who also had issues with diet drinks and thought he had acute tendonitis and was preparing for surgery. When he stopped drinking diet pop, the pain disappeared permanently.
